What could be more romantic than pledging your love on a gorgeous beach—the view of the horizon, the sound of waves lapping the shore, the promise of so many happy tomorrows…

Here you are in a setting associated with beauty, fun, frolic and R&R, so you can feel relaxed and at ease exchanging vows with your feet in the sand. Beach weddings are a little more boho and a little left-field, so this is your chance to create your own wedding vibe, theme and schedule.

While Penelope Cruz and Mariah Carey both chose the Bahamas, you can have a wonderful experience right here in Ontario (without the island expenses for you and your guests).

Here are 3 top places to plan your beach wedding closer to home…

Cobourg West Beach. An idyllic stretch of sand, sparkling blue water, and fresh, clean air. Perfect! You can walk along the boardwalk and “lock your love,” as per the European custom, at the Rotary Harbourfront Park bridge. This spot, a little more private and further along from the main beach, is also just a stroll away from the heritage downtown for your reception at Victoria Hall, perhaps, or one of the town’s lovely inns. Continue the seashore motif with a suite at Breakers on the Lake for your wedding night. The beauty of Cobourg is its warmth, small-town charm and quiet, so close to Toronto. Lake of Two Rivers’ East Beach, Algonquin Provincial Park. One of Canada’s most-loved wilderness parks, Algonquin is renowned for its natural beauty and the call of the loons. The East Beach at the park’s Lake of Two Rivers’ is an amazing wedding venue (not just for campers!) with a covered picnic pavilion that has two stone fireplaces, running water, heat, electricity and kitchen prep areas. Rustic and memorable, surrounded by forests.

Sandbanks Beach, Sandbanks Provincial Park. Prince Edward County has become a notable destination for touring vineyards (and plenty of sampling!). The powder-soft sand of the provincial park’s beachfront is equally impressive! This is an Ontario summer vacation paradise with a tropical beach feel—an ideal backdrop for an intimate beach wedding. There are shady trees, cool breezes, and a great snack bar. You and your guests will want to take a dip in the lake to celebrate the nuptials…

So how about a unique take on a beach wedding, while taking in the natural beauty of Ontario?

Best wishes (and happy planning!)
from Cobourg, Ontario’s Feel Good Town.
